Welding costs associated with the laying of pipes for deepwater oil and gas extraction can be reduced using high interpass temperatures (ITs). However, a IT decrease mechanical properties heat-affected zone (HAZ) welded joints. With use strength-toughness steels, this may an acceptable trade-off. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate influence ITs on HAZ. The coarse-grain HAZ (CGHAZ) intercritically reheated (ICCGHAZ) API 5L X70 pipe joint by metal arc welding was investigated. numerically simulated finite element method software. microstructure predicted thermodynamic simulation CGHAZ ICCGHAZ were also physically evaluated via optical microscopy scanning electron microscopy, dilatometry, Vickers microhardness Charpy V-notch (CVN) impact tests. increase in led but did not affect ICCGHAZ. CVN energies obtained all (CGHAZ ICCGHAZ) higher than that set DNVGL-ST-F101 standard (50 J). These results show increasing interesting effective reduce costs.
